Introduction
At AGU American Governors University, we believe in recognizing individuals whose extraordinary leadership, integrity, and service have contributed significantly to societal advancement. To honor such individuals, AGU proudly confers the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Innovation Leadership. This honorary doctorate is an emblem of our gratitude and acknowledgment for exemplary contributions to society through sustainable and transformative innovation.
The conferment of this prestigious honorary doctorate is a ceremonial tribute, celebrating the humanitarian spirit and visionary accomplishments of both men and women who serve as torchbearers for future generations. It is our hope that this recognition will inspire others to pursue acts of kindness, innovation, and global impact.
Purpose of the Honorary Degree
The Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Social Innovation Leadership is awarded to individuals who embody the highest ideals of social responsibility, innovation, ethical leadership, and global citizenship. This distinction acknowledges not only their tangible achievements but also their role as catalysts of positive change across communities, cultures, and countries.
All net proceeds from the honorary degree conferment process are directed toward providing scholarships for underprivileged students around the world, thereby ensuring the continuation of education and development in communities most in need.
Guidelines and Criteria for Nomination and Conferment
Eligibility: Nominees must have demonstrated significant leadership in social innovation, public service, humanitarian causes, educational advancement, cultural development, or other transformative societal contributions.
Nomination Process: Individuals may be nominated by academic institutions, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, or any community-based organizations. Self-nominations will also be accepted with sufficient supporting documentation.
Nomination Submission: All nominations must be submitted electronically via email to StudentService@agu-university.online. Submissions must include a detailed biography, a personal statement, and a minimum of three letters of recommendation.
Supporting Documentation: The nomination must be accompanied by verifiable records of achievement, including but not limited to: media features, awards, certificates, letters of commendation, publications, or leadership roles in community projects.
Evaluation Committee: A specially appointed Honorary Degree Evaluation Committee comprising university executives, scholars, and external advisors will review all submissions.
Selection Criteria: The committee will assess candidates based on leadership impact, sustainability of contributions, integrity, public perception, and alignment with AGU's mission and values.
Conferment Ceremony: Selected recipients will be invited to a formal conferment ceremony hosted virtually or in-person. The event includes a public reading of the Honorary Declaration and presentation of the doctoral regalia and certificate.
Honorary Title Usage: Recipients are entitled to use the title “Dr.” in recognition of their honorary degree. However, AGU requires that the honorary nature of the title be clarified in formal or academic contexts when appropriate.
Ethical Standards: Should any misconduct, legal infractions, or misrepresentation be discovered after the award, AGU reserves the right to revoke the honorary degree.
Legacy and Impact: All recipients are encouraged to serve as mentors and ambassadors of the university’s mission, promoting educational equity, peace, and innovation on a global scale.

Use of Proceeds
AGU is proud to announce that 100% of all contributions and proceeds resulting from the conferment of honorary degrees are allocated to our Global Scholarship Fund. This fund supports the education of students from disadvantaged backgrounds across the globe. Our mission is to foster learning opportunities for the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and changemakers who otherwise would not have access to higher education.
