American Governors University (AGU) – Management College of America is pleased to announce a new International Internship Program available to all students enrolled in our BBA, MBA, and DBA programs. This formal announcement serves to inform current and prospective students of an exciting opportunity to gain global business experience as part of their academic journey. The program reflects AGU’s commitment to experiential learning and international exposure, offering a transformative experience that complements classroom education. Participation in this internship program is optional (not a degree requirement) and is designed to inspire and prepare students for successful global careers.
Locations: Internships will be hosted in Canada and Singapore, two vibrant international business hubs. Students can expect to work with leading organizations in these countries, gaining insight into different cultural and corporate environments.
Format: The program offers flexible participation formats – onsite, online, or hybrid. This means students may choose to intern abroad in person, work remotely with an overseas company, or combine both approaches. The flexibility allows students to engage in the program regardless of their location or personal circumstances, and to tailor the experience to their comfort level.
Duration: Each internship placement will last approximately three months. This duration is long enough for interns to meaningfully contribute to projects and immerse themselves in the host company’s operations, yet short enough to fit within a summer term or an academic break. The three-month internship provides intensive, focused professional development without extending time to degree completion.
Optional Participation: Participation in the International Internship Program is entirely voluntary. It is not a mandatory requirement for graduation in the BBA, MBA, or DBA programs. Students who choose not to participate will still fulfill all degree requirements through the standard curriculum. The internship is an enhancement opportunity for those seeking additional international experience.
Program Fees: An additional program fee will be applicable for students who opt to join the internship program. This fee covers placement coordination, support services, and other resources provided to ensure a successful internship experience. We want to be transparent that the costs of travel, accommodation, or special online arrangements are accounted for through this fee. (Financial aid or funding options may be available in certain cases; interested students can inquire with the administration about any support for the internship program.)
Participating in AGU’s International Internship Program offers several career and personal development benefits:
Global Work Experience: Interns will gain firsthand experience working in an international setting. By engaging with business practices in Canada or Singapore, students can apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges and learn how business is conducted in different cultural contexts.
Career Advancement: Completing an internship with a leading global company enhances your résumé/CV and professional profile. It demonstrates to future employers that you have practical experience and adaptability, which can give you a competitive edge in the job market. Many participants find that international internship experience sets them apart when pursuing management and leadership roles.
Cross-Cultural Skills: Living and working (even virtually) across borders helps develop cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills. Students will learn to navigate diverse workplaces, improve foreign language or intercultural communication abilities, and become more culturally aware business leaders. These skills are increasingly valuable in today’s globalized economy.
Networking Opportunities: Interns will connect with professionals and industry leaders in the host country. Building an international professional network can open doors to mentorship, references, and future job opportunities. Even online interns will interact with global teams and expand their professional contacts beyond their home country.
Academic Enrichment: This internship serves as a bridge between academic theory and practice. MBA and DBA students might draw on internship insights for research or capstone projects, while BBA students can gain clarity on career interests. Overall, the experience can enrich classroom discussions and provide real examples to reference in your remaining coursework.
Through these benefits, the International Internship Program is designed to broaden your perspective and enhance your managerial skills, aligning with AGU’s mission to produce well-rounded, globally-minded business graduates.
AGU encourages all BBA, MBA, and DBA students who are interested in this opportunity to consider how an international internship could fit into your academic and career plans. We believe this program can be a life-changing experience, offering both professional growth and personal inspiration.
How to Learn More: If you are intrigued by the International Internship Program and would like to explore it further, we invite you to reach out to AGU’s Career Services Office or the Office of International Programs for more information. These offices can provide guidance on the application process, eligibility criteria, program schedules, and any other questions you may have. Details about how to apply, deadlines, and preparatory steps will be provided to interested students. We also plan to host information sessions (online and/or on campus) in the coming weeks to answer questions and assist students in planning for this experience.
In conclusion, the International Internship Program exemplifies AGU’s dedication to offering world-class educational opportunities beyond the classroom. This is a chance to ignite your career aspirations and gain global exposure in a supported, structured manner. We are excited to support our students who choose to embark on this journey.
Join us in embracing this global learning adventure – while it is optional, it may very well be a defining chapter of your academic life and future career. We look forward to seeing our students thrive as they learn, grow, and lead on an international stage.
